Tradin Paint
06/02/2009
In my opinion Tradin Paint is not a PG-13 rating, I would not want a 16 17 year old to here the cursing in this show. Even though I found myself laughing during the show, I was turned off to what could have been a very good play by the language that was used. I was embarrassed to have taken my wife and friends to see the show. While NASCAR, finding you self-worth, helping a stranger, etc. all came together for a really good storyline, The language turned me off within the first few minutes of the show. Why writers had to use foul langue to sale a good script. I just dont understand.

After seeing "Trading Paint" I was on the circuit to see that all my theatrical loving friends were at the starting gate to see the race. Not really knowing what to expect but knowing the performance would be great. I am not sure when I laughed as much as I did in that show. I know part numbers and good chicken taste.
A must see show, the checkered flags is dropped on June 7th.

We laughed all night and were only sad when it ended. Great cast. Veronika Duerr as Darla Frye was excellent, what a debut, please bring her back. We've been season ticket holders since 1984 and this is one of the funniest productions we've ever seen. Well done!

I had grave misgivings about seeing this work, fearing it would be yet another condescending jibe at a sport that has a huge fan base from ALL income and educational levels.
What a nice surprise! Details about the "real" NASCAR were skeletal, which left lots of room for the human side of "motorheads". It was fun; full of great one-liners, and I want to see it again.
The set was well-done, but the Darla Frye's costuming was a huge disappointment.

We loved the play!

My husband and I enjoyed it very much. I am spreading the word about how great the show is.

I just wanted to let everyone know how much my wife and I enjoyed the play TRADIN' PAINT. My eyes were watering from laughing so hard. The actors made the characters come alive, and the message on change was awesome. Great job by everyone!

I'm telling everyone about TRADIN' PAINT!!!!

I felt the true elitist snob when I went to the show, although knowing I would see decent performances from good people I generally eschew the...um..virtues (good word) of NASCAR and stock car racing and that includes the general admission crowd attending the events.

But Jessica Phelps West took an engagingly absurd script built upon an unlikely setting and threw in a a motley crew of characters to ENGAGE me thoroughly. Direction is too often underrated but a good actor will tell you there's nothing better than a strong hand at the wheel when you're traveling unchartered territory and bits of Tradin Paint are way outside the scope of my familiarity. For all that, the underlying common themes of connection, self appraisal and self-realization made the characters as real to me as any I see on, well, a normal day in Atlanta.

And I will NEVER view KFC or the Colonel the same way again. LOL

Must see!!!

Don't Misunderestimate Tradin' Paint

I'll be honest, the idea of a comedy about stock-car racing sounded to me like the dumbest kind of lowest-common- denominator Hollywood product. But Catherine Bush's Tradin' Paint at Theatre In the Square completely surprised and entertained me. It's not about racing, it's about an engaging collection of characters, wonderfully played by a terrific cast (Veronika Duerr, Eric Mendenhall, Bart Hansard, Neal Ghant, Kate Donadio, Matt Myers, Chad Martin and a fellow I'll apologize to for not knowing), under the lively and insightful direction of Jessica Phelps West. One of the most enjoyable shows I've seen this season, and I hope people will check it out.
