Like the book

Just as I like a musical concert to sound "just like the album", the director and cast made this play seem so unbelievably like the book! I have read Ethan Frome several times, and I absolutely loved this play!

Great! Best play I've seen in a while
04/02/2010
This show was so well done in all aspects. The actors were so believable in their complex characters. The production aspects were great as well. I love when a director is able to work in the scene/set changes while the story continues. The snow-cloaked forms that moved the set pieces were a wonderful addition that helped keep the story moving. As a performer, I usually always leave a show (even a great one) with some kind of critique that could have made the performance even better. However, in Ethan Frome, I can't think of anything that could have made this performance any more enjoyable. It was extremely well done and I am telling everyone to go see it. Hats off to the cast and crew of this production!

So Well Done!

As a season ticket holder for many years I was so impressed with Ethan Frome. The Theatre's signature elements are perfectly captured in this production - mystical creativity & superb acting. Hauntingly Real & Very Memorable! All of the reviews below are right on! This was truly one of the best dramas ever performed @ the Square. You will definitely miss out if you miss this one. It could not have been better!

Mesmerizing!
03/22/2010
From the moment Homer took over the narration to his last comment on stage, I was mesmerized by the story, the acting, the set, and the way the set was moved by hooded stage persons. Homer was outstanding in his portrayal of many characters. Ethan was expressive and believeable in his grotesque appearance and then his amazing transfiguration to younger years. His frustration was heart felt. Both Zeena and Mattie were strong in their characters, and added emotion to the plot. I thoroughly loved this play and the actors that brought it to life. Thank you for touching my soul.

Very Creative
03/15/2010
I was truly taken by this adaptation of the novel Ethan Frome. I found it very evocative of the feelings the original Edith Wharton story elicited in me so many decades ago. I never had a moment when I didn't believe I was watching Wharton's Frome live through his angst-filled situation. The actors were first rate and the set did the wonders with such little space and so few props. The play continues to haunt me asthat last coasting and its aftermath certainly haunted Ethan.

What a show!

I just returned from the preview showing and was stunned by this performance. The actors are so real and the creative set design and use of effects will have you stunned. These four actors take the audience to a world long ago and you appreciate the life and struggles of Ethan Frome.
